** Important Notice Sewer Spill on December 16th, 2025 **
On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at approximately 7:30 a.m., District staff were notified of a potential sewer leak located 800\u20131,000 feet west of the Uwharrie Bridge along Highway 109. Staff responded immediately, identified the leak, and developed a repair plan. By 10:00 a.m., additional flow from Pump Station 9 was stopped, and crews uncovered a 3\u20136-inch split in a 12-inch sewer line resting on a rock. The damaged section was removed, the rock was jackhammered out, and the line was properly bedded and repaired. The line was operational by 2:00 p.m. The sewer spill traveled along the grassy area between Old Highway 109 and Highway 109 toward the Uwharrie River. Approximately 5,000 gallons were released, with less than 2,500 gallons reaching the river. No fish kill or lasting impact on the river was observed. During repairs, Pump Station 9 experienced an overflow of approximately 8,000 gallons around the station into nearby agricultural fields. A third-party pump truck removed 800 gallons for proper disposal, and the remaining material was absorbed by the field. Lime was applied to all affected areas as a safety measure. We anticipate no residual effects on the river or surrounding agricultural land. This release is being issued to inform the public of the incident and the actions taken to address it.<\/strong><\/h6>\n\n\n\n

Please note: This rate change only affects customers on our sewer system at Badin Lake, including Badin Lake, Uwharrie Point, and Badin Shores Resort.
