On November 7, 2024, at 2:45 PM, personnel from Handy Sanitary District detected a sewer leak due to a pipe failure along Hwy 109, adjacent to the Uwharrie River. Immediate repair efforts commenced, concluding successfully at 3:45 PM. Preliminary estimates indicate a total leakage of 12,000 gallons, with approximately 10,000 gallons entering the Uwharrie River. Fortunately, no evidence of fish kills has been observed. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) was informed of the situation at 3:36 PM on the same day and has classified the incident under Incident Number 202402902.

The Handy Sanitary District’s Budget for FY2025-2026 was submitted to the Board of Supervisors at their meeting on May 20, 2025, and is now available for public inspection in the office of the Clerk to the Board, Handy Sanitary District, 17403 S NC Hwy 109, Denton, NC. The Handy Sanitary District will consider the adoption of the FY2024-2025 Budget Amendment Ordinance and the FY2025-2026 Budget Ordinance at a public hearing scheduled to be held during the regular meeting of the Board on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 4:00 PM, at the District office, located at the above address. Those interested are invited to attend the public hearing and make comments on the Budget.
