Handy Sanitary District is governed by a Board of Supervisors made up of five
persons, elected from within the district. After being elected, each board
member serves a 4-year term. The terms are staggered so that either two or three
seats are up for election every two years.
In addition to being locally governed by the Board of Supervisors,
Handy Sanitary District is also presided over at the state level by NC
Department of Environment and Natural Resources (Division of Water Quality)
and the NC State Treasurer’s Office (Local Government Commission).
